Tying It All Together?

I've been thinking lately about having an "anchor" piece in a room, you know, a piece of fabric or art that ties the color scheme together. Do you think its necessary?

And if you do, do you feel like its okay to add a color to a space that isn't in your "anchor" piece?

I don't see an anchor piece here and love the addition of the red (Elle Decor)

I've always used a fabric that had all the colors I wanted in a room, and I definitely think it helps a room to feel pulled together. I just can't help but think I want to mix it up this time around with my living room. Have it feel pulled together but not "matchy". So, I'm struggling with not having that piece of fabric.

The coverlet is definitely "it" here, and it doesn't feel too "put together". (Style At Home, Photo: Sue Stubbs)

The boys and I were at JoAnn's yesterday and I checked out a few fabric samples that I liked to see if I could pull something together. Keep in mind I know that the patterns are all large and random, and that isn't working, I was just grabbing colors in order to get home to meet my 1st grader:)

I love me some green, all different shades please. Too boring?

This floral is so fun, I think the colors are working, and although pink would be awesome it just doesn't feel like me.

I just put the fabrics I really liked together just to see. Not happening...

This one feels blah.

I would love to know what you guys think, does a room need something that ties all of the colors together?

Tasteful Easter Decor

Is that a rude name for a post? I hope not, I just honestly don't love pastels or bunnies.

Do you decorate for Easter? I do, mostly because it puts me in the Easter/Spring mood and I think it gets my kids excited as well. I found some pretty yummy Easter decor I thought I would share to get your wheels turning on ways to dress up your house for the holiday!

Simple, beautiful.

So springish for a centerpiece!

I've had this table in my file for awhile now, one day I will re-create it:)

These felted eggs are just what I have in mind

All the elements of spring!

How adorable would these be for a party favor?! Monogrammed and filled with goodies!

And these lovelies would be so festive for an entry table

Now if it would quit snowing maybe I could really get in the spirit:)

In The Market For A Sofa?

I've been so excited about couches since I discovered Klaussner Home Furnishings! I'm on a fairly limited budget with my sofa purchase, but I wasn't willing to sacrifice style of comfort. It seems like all of the "big box" furniture stores haven't quite had what I've envisioned for my living room. I was pretty set on the IKEA Extorp couch in charcoal, but wasn't sure about the comfyness. I headed into Palmer Home Furnishings in Logan, my friend decorates model homes and gets a lot of her stuff through them. I described what I had in mind and the guy gave me a Klaussner catalog to look through. I fell in love with a few of their pieces and the price points were VERY reasonable. Not too mention the one Klaussner I sat on was really comfortable! Here are a few of my favorites that you can customize.

This one is classic, and calling my name.

Two at the foot of a bed, or as a coffee table...so cute!

Looks like a Pottery Barn sofa to me...without the Pottery Barn price.

I'm feelin' this style for my house, not too modern but just enough.

LOVE, that's all.

An ottoman that could be a great accent piece

This is a sprawl out and take a nap couch, for sure.

Super fun color to add to a bedroom or office, and the lines of this chair are perfection!I don't know why I'm all stoked on these furniture pieces, I think its just refreshing to see great style that's comfortable and affordable!

Have A Great Weekend Friends! :)

Black and White Fabric Favorites

When I envision drapes for my living room I definitely have something black and white in my head. My walls are "olive grey" and I like the idea of the black and white combo standing out subtly (that's kind of contradicting). As I've said before, my city doesn't have much to offer in the way of fabric stores and I never made it to Salt Lake last week, so I continue to search the web for the perfect drapes. Here's what I've found and am considering:

Buy Fabrics

I had planned on posting my new and improved entry way today, but I ended up ordering this cutie

to go with this cutie...and I found out it was back ordered the day after I ordered it. So I will wait, and hope it will be worth it!

Have a great day!

How Do You Mess Up Spray Paint?

This weekend I've been working on painting a chest of drawers for my entry. I love this piece, my mother-in-law bought it for me 7 years ago, and I think its pretty timeless. It was painted a rustic black and needed a little update. I spray painted two coats of black lacquer, the problem...after two coats its still patchy and a little drippy. I kept the spray paint moving while I was doing it and held the can 10-12" from the furniture. I'm not sure what I did wrong. Any ideas?

(sorry, this picture is a little cluttered)

Aargh! A little frustrated over here. Seriously, how did I mess this up?

On a positive note, I wanted to show you the couch I'm saving up forTotally cute, yes?:)

Feeling A Little Eclectic

Lately, I am loving an eclectic room. Not one that feels "cluttered", just one that has a fun mix of styles, patterns and a little bit of color. Here's a few inspiration pics to head into the weekend:

Randomness

I love absolutely everything about living in a smaller community, everything except interior design resources. I'm in need of 1/2 yard of fabric to put on this bad boy. (He's kind of cute, right?, $5 mind you) My mom's reading this, thinking, "another DI find...." :)

Joann's was a ST-rike, and I'm guessing Hobby Lobby might be as well (I'll probably check tomorrow), that's pretty much it folks, those are our stores for home decorator fabrics. So I'll wait until I can get down to SLC on Friday, and hope that Home Fabrics has some goods.

I decided kind of spur of the moment to do a quick re-vamp of my entry way. Just spruce a few things up and bring in some new accessories. My goal is to only spend $30 and have it done by next Tuesday. Here is me playing around with the placement, etc.
I've decided I need more gold things in my life, it just warms up a space.

P.S. Seriously...he makes my day!

Maclaren's Nursery

Hi guys, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I finally got some much needed cleaning done, which always feels good. I had my best friend Jill send over some of the pics from her daughter, Maclaren's, nursery. This room was a long time coming, but worth the wait. I am head over heels for these fabrics. Take a look:

One of my all time favorite florals! Can you see the wide stripes on the piping? The outside of the bumper is a charcoal gray linen.

Love these mock romans!

Floor pillows are so fun in a nursery, not only to add a few more prints to the room, but to give your husband or mom somewhere to sit and chat while you feed the baby.

That chevron (kind of hard to see) is seriously to die for! These framed fabrics will hang above the changing table.

Don't you love all the pictures of Maclaren above the crib?! They are the icing on the cake. That baby girl is pretty dang sweet.

Jill and I have had so much fun putting together fabrics for this nursery, and I have loved getting the play by play of the decorating. It keeps our 23 year friendship going strong!

Back to the Olioboard!

Last night I found Olioboard. An awesome site that lets you create your own mood board with images from the internet as well as your own files. Best part...its free! I've been wanting to put my thoughts for my living room all together, cause ya know how sometimes it looks a lot different than you had envisioned? This, my friends, was one of those times. Seriously...NOT coming together like I had planned!

Living Room

It's cool, we're totally good, just glad I did this before I went ahead and ordered fabric. Phew! I'll try again with a little different approach and see if it gels better:)

Happy Friday, hope your weekend is grand!
